Which patch does the recall effect?
The recall is on the Cub Scout Immediate Recognition Kit plastic patch. The white patch has blue and yellow paint stripes, wolf and bear picture and the words “Progress Toward Rank”. The white plastic patch for the Tiger Cub with a black paw print has been tested and contains no lead and is safe to use.

How far back does the recall go?
We are accepting any and all Cub Scout plastic patches. Because you cannot distinguish patches from year to year we are taking any patches for exchange.

Do I replace my beads and lanyard as well?
No. All components of the kit have been tested. The beads and lanyard are not being replaced as they are free of lead paint and safe to use.

How can I tell if my patch is a new one?
The new plastic patches are coming out on December 1, 2007. These new patches will have a small diamond imprint on the back of the white plastic. This can be felt by running your finger over the white back of the patch.

How do I get a replacement patch?
New plastic patches will be in all Scout Shops and licensed retailers beginning December 1, 2007. Each patch will be exchanged for a new one and a ticket to win one of three Mongoose BMX bikes.

How long does it take to get a replacement patch?
Instantly at the store! The BSA Scout Shops and licensed retailers will have the new patches beginning on December 1, 2007 where you can get one right away and enter a chance to win one of three Mongoose BMX bikes. Ordering by phone or online can take up to 4 weeks to deliver by mail.

What if I don’t have a Scout Shop or licensed retailer close to me?
Plastic patches can be exchanged on our website at If you don’t have internet access you can call 888-800-4717. Website and phone orders can take up to 4 weeks to deliver.

When is the drawing for the Mongoose BMX Bikes?
The drawing for the 3 Mongoose BMX bikes will take place on April 1, 2008. The winners will be contacted by phone.

May consumers get a refund instead of a replacement patch?
No. The recall remedy is a replacement patch which Kahoot will provide free of charge not a refund.

How do I dispose of my old patch?
Bring it to the store. If parents decide to not bring it to the store, because of the small amount of lead contained on each individual patch, the patches can be disposed of in household waste.

What if I have already thrown away the patch?
Come into the store. You will receive a new patch and a contest ticket.
